color preferencing

I have a Linux box and a SunOS box. When I use putty to ssh to the SunOS box, everything is in black and white. When I ssh to the Linux box, it show color. I'd like to achieve the same color settings on the SunOS box. Would anyone know how to do this here (without root privilages)? Also, would anyone know how to take away the color on the Linux box?

Thanks in advance.
