mget and mput...

hello,

i was interested in knowing if you can mget or mput a sequence of files:

example- say i have a dir with 1000 files with the same extension e.g. *.sgi,
is there a way to mget only the last 200 files?

i would assume that there is a flag i would use, or something like:

mget *.700.sgi *.1000.sgi

thanks for any help!

yoyomamma,

I don't think that what you're asking can be done in ftp.

thanks matt,

is there any solution to this?

i sometimes have to move huge amounts of data, but once in a while i get an "alarm clock" after moving 3/4 of the data.

i was hoping that there was a way to get the remaining files without getting the whole shebang.

anyway, thanks again for your help!

Check out rsync - might be what you need & easy to use.

hey cameron,

i did check out rsync, but it is too volitile for what i do. i transfer huge amounts of data and will run into memory issues with rsync.

i think....

thanx though!

I'm curious what you mean by "a sequence of files". You want the last 200, but the last 200 of what? The 200 oldest files? Newest? Largest? By alphabetical order?

How are these files named? Are they all random and different or numbered from file0001.sgi to file1000.sgi?

hi oombera,

the sequence is named like:

name.0001.sgi - name.1000.sgi

and sometimes during a mget or mput i get the "alarm clock" so i have around 700 of the files where i need them, and 300 left to send. (or get).

i was hoping that there was a way to tell mput or mget to get the rest of the sequence without getting everything at the same time.

thanks!
