extracting lines from a file, which contain lines in another file
Hello all. I would need to "grep" a file for the occurrence of all lines listed in another file. The result would be a list of lines extracted from file 1, which contain instances (lines) present in file 2. Could you suggest the command? thanx a lot for help!

You can do something like this:

cat file1 | while read line ; do
grep -qw $line file2
if [ $? -eq 0 ] ; then
echo $line
fi
done
# 3

Use the -f option of grep, check the man page:

grep -f file1 file2
