100 $1's to new tab delimited file

Hi

I have 100 files each with only one column of 10 numbers that I wish to add to a new file so that I get 100 columns collected in one tab delimited file.
I tried something like:

foreach num (1 2 3)
foreach? gawk -F '\t' '{$num=$1}1' OFS='\t' Eu9_10.2patienter/pospep_10.2patient$num >> test

But I know that (>>) just puts the columns underneath each other in column 1 of the new file.

How do I sort them in 100 COLUMNS?

The idea is that I have to make a lot of calculations/statistics with the data so I would like to eventually transfer them to an Excel doc for that.

Code:
paste *>newfile

I'm a total newbie!

What do you mean by "real pattern"?

Something like this:

Code:
paste Eu9_10.2patienter/pospep_10.2patient*>newfile

Ahh cool that was easy!

But why doesn't it work with a loop like:

foreach num (1 2 3)
foreach? paste Eu9_10.2patienter/pospep_10.2patient$num > test
end

Your way is much easier - I would just like to understand why the above example doesn't work. Smilie Ahh I think I just realized it - The file "test" is overwritten each time the loop runs...?!!

Okay then but is there a way to do the same thing with a loop?

Yes,
but you should not use (t)csh for scripting.

Code:
set all = ''
foreach file ( file* )
  [ "$all" ] && set all = "$all `cat "$file"`" || set all = "`cat "$file"`"
end
echo "$all" > newfile
