OPTARG and date enquiries

Hi,

I am a newbie in Unix. I'm writing a bourne shell that takes 2 arguments. The usage is like this:
xyz -m09 -o filename
-m is the month that the user enter and the script should determine whether the file is created before the month entered or after the month entered.
-o is the option to open the file.

I did it this way just now. But It don't seems like working to read the 09.

Quote:
case $OPT in
m) month=$OPTARG
;;
esac
Can I know how can I make the script to read the 09? How can I cut it out to assign it to a variable in the script?

Thank you.

while getopts "m: o:" OPT
do
case $OPT in
m) month=$OPTARG
;;
o) filename=$OPTARG
esac
done

Where getopts is using the m and o in quotes just don't put a space betwwen them
