help with calling programs

Hi. I have a problem in running a program in linux system. This program (damaver.l86) is in the path /home/shenk/damaver/, and it needs to call another program (supcomb.l86) in another path /home/shenk/supcomb/. I tried to modified the .bash_profile, but it didn't work. The error message is always like: sh:cannot find supcomb. In the software instruction it says to copy the supcomb.l86 file into an "executable directory". I assume that by adding the path of the program into the .bash_profile will make the directory executable (?) Do I need a permission to modify the bash file? Now I am quite confused by the situation. May I have your suggestions? Thanks a lot!

The path in .bash_profile is as following:

Code:
# .bash_profile

# Get the aliases and functions
if [ -f ~/.bashrc ]; then
	. ~/.bashrc
fi

# User specific environment and startup programs

PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin:$HOME/shenk/supercomb:$HOME/shenk/damaver

export PATH
unset USERNAME
