Is there a way to find out all users and the UNIX groups they belong to??

We really need to know what Operating System you have and you preferred shell.

One way on unix systems is to generate a list of user login names from the password file using "listusers", parse the username with "awk", and use the "id" command to ask about the group membership.

Code:

#!/bin/ksh
listusers | awk '{print $1}' | while read USERNAME
do
         id "${USERNAME}"
done

Beware that "listusers" does not list system users such as "root". Depends on what you actually want.


There will be umpteen other ways of getting this information depending on your local environment.
