Thanks for clearing that for me. POSIX sounded like another shell for a moment. Another from which to choose.

I'm still at a loss as to which one to use.

On my hand, I like Bash especially the command line is easier to use. Yet most people at the office seem to use Korn for actual scripting.

I guess this is a matter of preference and using with which you are comfortable.

I'll play around some more with both and go from there.

I started life in Unix using Cshell for both my terminal use and scripting - showing my age now. Smilie Then I switched to Korn interactively, but wrote Bourne shell scripts. Now, I tend to use Korn for scripting. I can also easily work in Bash as it seems to me to be a mix of C-shell interactivity and Bourne/Korn shell functionality. IMO, it's worth getting to know both/all of them, as a change of job could easily result in a change of shell.

I suggest you learn the Korn shell if you are using Solaris, OpenSolaris, AIX or HP-UX and bash if you are using GNU/Linux.
