.profile on ksh

Hello,
I've a problem with .profile on ksh.
I use exceed to connect as a user to my server.

When I'm connected, my PS1 variable is $, but on my .profile it is defined like

PS1="`/usr/ucb/whoami`@$HOSTNAME# "
...
export ENV PAGER HOSTNAME PAGER PATH PS1 MAIL

Now... all my alias on .profile seems to be ok, all my $VARIABLES too.
Only PS1 doesn't work.

But, if I do
. .profile

or directly
PS1="`/usr/ucb/whoami`@$HOSTNAME# "

everything works fine.
I think it's a problem with some configuration file on exceed.

Some suggestion?
Thanks all

Resolved.
It was a conflict beetwen differents config files.
