chown and NIS
I have a box that people are using to ssh to our customer sites. Everyone uses an NIS account that I have created for them. I also create home directories for these users as well on this box.

My question is can use a command, like chown, to change ownership of the directories I create to the NIS accounts that I have created.

If anyone can tell me how to do it, or suggest some literature/web sites, I would greatly appreciate it.

Just use the chown command after creating the NIS account.

Created NIS account joeuser and directory /export/home/joeuser.
# ls -ld /export/home/joeuser
drwxr-xr-x 8 root other 512 Jun 30 12:20 /export/home/joeuser
#
# chown -R joeuser:hisgroup /export/home/joeuser
# ls -ld /export/home/joeuser
drwxr-xr-x 8 joeuser hisgroup 512 Jun 30 12:20 /export/home/joeuser
#
