installing Unix

Hi all,

I just joined this forum and I have tons and tons of questions!

Lets start with first one,

how to install unix (on laptop)?

I bought this book (Unix System Administrator's Bible) and got a CD (Full distribution copy of FreeBSD 2.2.5); and it is all compressed (I got that portion), the laptop doesnt have any OS on it, so using PC I made the bootable flopy. I start my laptop with the floppy, it starts off correctly; but.... it hangs up once it starts accessing floppy!

Regarding the compressed files on CD, do I have to uncompress them in a different CD/Floppy before I start with the bootable floppy?

HELP!!!!!!

Wow that's an old version (october 97) .. you may want to start by downloading v 5.1 if you have a fast connection...

I'm not sure what the problem may be.. until someone can help you further, here's some reading material.

Read this page and make sure you created the floppies the way it says to..

[ for TINO]

Nope that is not the case here, thank you though.

I think I will try with Linux (Red Hat) before Unix. Lets see how it works.
