Kylix Installation (File problems)

Hi,

I have been trying to install Borland Kylix 3 (the free one I downloaded off the internet) on my Mandrake 9.0 computer.

I have run ./testsystem and it said I was ok. BUT when I run ./borpretest it says it can't find 'lib-a.so'. I find this wierd since the file is in the same directory as borpretest, and I checked the permissions and made everything avaliable so it could work, but its still says it can't find it.

Moving on, I then go through the installation with setup.sh, but when it comes to installing the program files rpm, it stops with an error code of -10. I have checked the permissions and it should be able to run just fine :S.

If anyone out there knows how to fix this so I can install I would be most grateful.

Not sure if this article in general will help any, but I noticed that he says the script "testsystem" runs the program "borpretest".. are you sure "borpretest" is meant to be run by itself outside of "testsystem"? "testsystem" may be responsible for finding out where 'lib-a.so' is located and passing that value on...
Also, it mentions that error messages are sent to a file called PREINSTALL.. may be worth checking out.

Check this out from the Borland site:

Thanks for the help oombera, I bookmarked the sites you gave me.

Unfortunately before your reply I decided there might be a problem with my glibc files, so I installed the rpm I had from my red hat cds, and one thing led to another and I kinda stuffed up my sytem pretty bad, I've fixed most of it but all my start shortcuts arent there anymore. Also, now all of the file associations are gone too (for eg, I click a HTML file and it asks what program I should use to open it).

Its about this time I swore I'll get my red hat 8 cd's back and install that instead... and I'll enter the root password as a random combination of key bashings so I can't log in and stuff it up again Smilie

lol but thanks for your help oombera, when I get my system running again no doubt I'll be needing them (because i'll bet it doesn't work - again).
