It's easier to solve the problem if you keep all replies in the same thread.. (merged different topics into one post - RTM).

my knowlege in unix is very limited

I have no idea how to route the ip..
I changed the ip in the l

/etc/tcp **** changed ip here*****

pdoug76 - I merged the different topics you started into this one - please continue using it to solve your problem by using the "Post reply" button instead of "New topic". Please read the top post as this is what pdoug76 inital asked about.
Also note in the link provide it states how to change hostname/IP on SCO UNIX - it is not the same as Linux, Solaris, ... pdoug76 may not need to edit all those files but unless we get a SCO expert on board it may be the only good answer we can give.

Unable to ping the gateway IP itself

We are unable to bring one of our linux boxes into the network once it was restarted. But once we stop and start the network service. We are able to ping the gateway and get into network.
