xterm on Linux

Hi all,

I use cygwin-X to log on to a remote Linux server (from WIN-XP)
When I type xterm& it prints what it should print, something like:
[2] 23166
but the new screen never starts.

What can cause this problem? do I need to add something to my PATH?

Thanks!
R

What output do you get if you do not put it in the background -- ie,
Code:
xterm

Also, print out your DISPLAY variable.

I decided to uninstall cygwin and reinstall it. If the problem continues, I'll reply with the details you asked.
Many thanks!
