Replacing between pattern

Hi all,

I been searching the forum for a few hours now and can't find exactly what I need to replace text between two patterns. Below is what I want to accomplish

PHP Code:

/*  Any text between these to sympols  */

changed to....

/*  This will be the new text to change */

..and I'm not matching exactly on the above pattern.  I have lots of comments/text between these two symbols I need changed:   /*   */

So, between the /* and the */ are comments that I need to change. I came up with this the below command but it had adverse impact on other things as show below...

sed -i "s[/*].*[*/]_/* <comments removed> */_g" $FILE_NAME

It worked, but the command isn't recognizing the "*" because it had the below impact and changed text I didn't want changed....

ge-0/0/0 was changed to ge-0/* <comments removed */0

Thanks for suggestions if anyone can help.

try this:

sed -e "s-\*.*\*/-\* <comments removed> \*/-g" $FILENAME

This one is the right one (forgot leading / in the previous post) :

sed -e "s-/\*.*\*/-/\* <comments removed> \*/-g" $FILENAME
