and my result shows:

I expect to see cn3937 matches with File2 as well. U17234 matches up perfectly. Thank you in advance for your help.

This is not a "does the value exist in the other file" comparison. You files are in different orders, so this is seen as a difference. Could you sort the files first?

I sort -u and then:

However the way an exponent is written is different (i.e. in 1 file, a particular number might be written as 1.43230000E+02 whereas in another it might be 1.4323E2).
