How to perform kickstart installation with virtual floppy image from ILO console?
HI All,
I have created a kickstart file and converted into .img with below procedure to mount this as a floppy image file to supply the kickstart file during the installation time.
But installation failing with unknown ks file location and other error messages.
1. Build an empty floppy image file using dd command:
Code:
[root]# dd if=/dev/zero of=./ombs-ks.img bs=512 count=2880
2880+0 records in
2880+0 records out
1474560 bytes (1.5 MB) copied, 0.00821857 s, 179 MB/s
2. Set up a loop device with the image file:
Code:
[root]# losetup /dev/loop0 ./ombs-ks.img
3. Create the file system with the loop device:
Code:
[root]# mkfs.msdos /dev/loop0
mkfs.msdos 3.0.16 (01 Mar 2013)
4. Check the filesystem:
Code:
[root]# fsck.msdos /dev/loop0
dosfsck 3.0.16, 01 Mar 2013, FAT32, LFN
Logical sector size is zero.
5. Clean up and delete the loop device:
Code:
[root]# losetup -d /dev/loop0
6. Mount the loop device:
Code:
[root]# mount -o loop -t auto ombs-ks.img /var/tmp/floppy/
7. Copy the ombs-ks.cfg kickstart file to the floppy directory.
Code:
[root]# cp /JUMP/ombs-ks.cfg /var/tmp/floppy
8. Copy the the image file ombs-ks.img into the server where we are accessing the ilo. Mount this image file in ilo as an imagefile and provide the grub parameters to install OS from this ks file.
I have provided the following values in grub mode so far, but installation is failing with no kickstart file found errors.
Thanks for the response.
Kickstart file is working fine with out any issues when we are trying to install with other methods like NFS and HTTP.
We are only facing issue when trying to install with floppy image.

Hi All,
So we added a new HP-UX 11.31 machine. Copied OS via Ignite-UX (DVD)over from this machine called machine_a. It was supposed to be named machine_c. And it is when you log in...however when I'm in the ILO console before logging in, it says:

I was wondering if there was a Solaris JumpStart image small enough to fit on a floppy. The computer I want to JumpStart doesn't have a CD drive. If so, where could I download it? (6 Replies)
Hi there,
I've started playing around with Linux a few days back, as part of my intenship. I was wondering if there is anyway I can install custom packages (non RPM packages...say like Oracle) as a part of Kickstart. My machines are running RHEL 4.
Thanks a lot :) (1 Reply)
We are using software (Pegasys) which runs on SunOS 5.8 and reads images from a Philips nuclear camera. The software is designed to run from the console. I need to be able to capture the images it produces on the display. The caveat is that I cannot use the X Windows display because the X Server... (3 Replies)

Hi.
I dont have the root password to a really old openserver 5.0.5 machine, where i need to recover some root-owned file. I searched google for methods to recover the root password, and these methods involve having the 'boot' and 'root' floppy images available.
I checked ftp.caldera.com for... (1 Reply)
