Error code with if statement

hello all

im new to unix and when i use below script i get an error :

Code:

#! /bin/bash
Echo -e "enter the name of the file : \c"
read file_name
if [ -e $file_name ]
then
echo "$file_name found"
else
echo "$file_name not found"
fi

running the script i get below error :

Code:

$ ./hello
': not a valid identifiere : ./hello: line 3: read: `file_name
./hello: line 11: syntax error: unexpected end of file
