I do not know why my pics don't show up in my posts. They show up everywhere else, and I checked my user settings and the "Images" box is checked. I give up unless someone else can give me a clue.
Even without the pictures, there should only be two or three lines in mscsi.
where ID is the controller 0 for primary, and one for secondary
and lun is 0 for master, and one for slave. bus is always 0.
It is important that the contents of this file match the cmos. Modify the disk line in this file to match the actual cmos, or modify the cmos to match the file,, then save a copy of unix in /stand and relink the kernel (if you made a change to the file.)
Try booting from the new unix, and if that fails, you still have the saved current copy.
Note that /stand is normally mounted read only, so you will have to unmount it and re-mount in order to copy or write to it.
As far as I remember, the Sdsk (hd) at 0,0,0,0 has never showed up in the mscsi file. There was originally entries for the tape drive and the cd-rom drive, but I have deleted the tape drive and many times I've deleted and re-entered the cd-rom drive. The cd has always shown up as 0,1,0,0 because I always entered it as the Primary Slave, like it is listed in my BIOS. My next ideas are:
1) I am going to attach a SATA cd-rom drive and have BIOS settings to emulate IDE, and see if it shows up as Secondary Master like it needs to, or what it shows up as.
2) Get a new mb to install in my old server hardware box and see if that allows the O/S to boot up back in the old location.
I don't want to take too many chances with the installation on this hd, because everything seems to be OK and would work if I could get it booted up in an environment where the NIC was working.
Surely you mean 'number' is the controller number - 0 for primary and 1 for secondary
And ID is 0 for Master and 1 for Slave
Bus is always 0 in this context.
Lun is N/A because it's not SCSI.
What do you reckon?
In terms of the overall issue here I wonder whether the IDE cable being used is 'cable select' and is being contradicted by the jumper settings on the actual devices. Just a thought.
Major Update - I was able to find a brand-new motherboard that is the exact model as the one I had in the old hardware. I spent the morning replacing it and reconnecting everything, and the system now boots up. It appears to be recognizing the cd-rom, and I have installed the LAN card using netconfig, and the system automatically selected the type of card to install. However, there appears to be some "clean-up" needed which I assume is arising from the new motherboard. First - the system says I have no licenses for SCO, and when I go into "scoadmin license" it lists all of my licenses but shows them all as "Expired". Will I need to uninstall them, then reinstall and reregister with Xinuos? I have a contact there from when I had trouble before, so that should not be a problem. Second - even though I installed the LAN card, I cannot ping in or out of the system, and I think it's because of this error I'm getting: "Warning: ip_output: TCP/IP Not Licensed" Would this also be cleared up with relicensing the system through Xinous? I feel pretty lucky to have gotten this far, I hope these final hurdles can be overcome. Please advise if you know how I should proceed. Thanks for ALL HELP!!
Oh, and a follow-up - would I still need to install the updated LAN drivers that I obtained per a previous post in this thread? Thanks again.
