Hi All,

I want to split the file after size gets above 100kb.
So I am using below command.

Code:

split -b 100kb File.txt Test

But while splitting , my record is breaking as in middle of the record, size of file is getting above 100kb. So after splitting half record is in one file and half record in another file.
I want whole record in one file.
Please suggest.

Well if you give a size it will split at size... No matter is record will be split...
Find out how much records/lines approx ou have in 100kb then use that value...

Is there any option to use -b option and also option for full record should come in file?

If you have fixed width records then you could divide the total size in bytes by the record length to get the total number of records. You can then estimate where 100kb will fall by number of records and split using lines instead with the -l flag.

Sadly, you either have to split on exact byte count or record count, which may not exactly meet your 100kb requirement.

1) Why do you want an entire record in each piece of the split file?

2) Do the file pieces not assemble correctly, say with cat?

3) Why do you care about exactly 100KB character size?

4) What operations are compromised or fail for split records or sizes not of exactly 100KB?
