presistant error
Looking at my message logs today I noticed this error that keeps coming up

Code:
Nov 21 15:27:55 ws096 saslauthd[7074]: do_auth         : auth failure: [user=Qwerty] [service=smtp] [realm=] [mech=shadow] [reason=Unknown]

what does this mean?

Looks like someone or some script is trying to login using user Qwerty to smtp .

is there a way to stop this? or find out were its coming from?

Look in your other logs for an ip address and ad it to your /etc/hosts.deny

I dont know what system you have or what you have running so you will have to find the log files.

But if you do block that ip address, it will just start again from someone else. There is always someone trying to get into my servers and you cant block everyone. You just have to put up with it and make sure you have basic security setup.

im using centos 4.x
i already use the hosts.deny file

Rpcinfo: can't contact portmapper: RPC: Authentication error; why = Failed (unspecified error)
