Enterprise backup software

My company has been an OmniBack shop for about 2 years now. We use it to backup both Unix and NT servers as well as a Network Appliance Filer. For the most part it has sufficed for what we do. However, management is considering changing to another backup software. We are considering either staying with HP OmniBack II or switching to Legato Networker or Veritas NetBackup as we have been told that they are the big three players in this space.

Does anyone out there have experience with more that one backup solution and can comment on the pros and cons of the different versions you have used?

Strong feelings against Legato Networker - if you have over 10 servers it is not made to handle it. I've seen problems at sites where anywhere from 20 to 100+ servers and they used this software with great difficulties.

It was not made to handle Enterprise sites - only time it's decent is when you set up the default configuration and have less than 20 servers (10 or less would probably be better). There support is lousy with too many times giving advice that crashes your server.

From those who had used both Legato and Veritas, Veritas was the choice. Don't know of anyone who used Omniback but I've never been in a big HP environment (only 8 of 100+ servers here are HP).

Veritas is the HummVEE of Backup Solutions

If your company is looking to move to a new backup solution for the enterprise, I would seriously look at Veritas Netbackup.

They have a very good product. I work for a Very Large telecom company and Veritas is now our Enterprise solution for all HPUX and SUN systems.

We use ADSM now TSM, Tivoli Storage Management, for all legacy Oss and for AIX as well.

Veritas is very configurable for large groups of systems.
