We use Load Runner under Win32 where I work. But Load Runner also has binaries for Solaris and Linux.

It is a bit expensive but is supposed to be the best load generation tool for the web. It allows the user to create virtual users in interpreted (!) ANSI C.

You can find out more at http://www-svca.mercuryinteractive.c...s/loadrunner/.

While procuring the above URL, I see that Astra is a Mercury Interactive product as well. What about Astra did not work?

Damn, I was hoping there would be an open-source load generator, or at least one for free. Maybe I should try my hand at writing one myself.

Search CPAN for Perl modules related to http load testing. They have some code to stress websites.

I have never used it and don't know how easy it is to modify for a dynamic website.
