Hi everybody,

I have a problem with rcp & rsh command from Winnt 4 to an AIX machine.

I would like to use rsh from Winnt on Unix but it works only with some machines of the domain. With the others, an error message appears and say : "myadress.com: rshd: 0826-826 The host name for your address is not known.
rsh: can't establish connection".

What can I do ? I put "+ +" in my .rhosts file....

Sounds like a DNS problem. Make sure your DNS is configured correctly on each machine, or add the host entries to /etc/hosts.

a- Add the IP, host_name and aliases (of the NT machine) in the /etc/hosts in both machines in the AIX machine.

execute an script with the following commands:

if [ ! f /etc/netsvc.conf ]
then
echo "hosts=local,bind" > /etc/netsvc.conf
else
echo "review the hosts definitions in the /etc/netsvc.conf"
echo "hosts=local,bind"
fi

In the NT machine:

Add the IP, host_name and aliases of the AIX machine in the
\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

b- Add the .rhosts in the home directory of the user in the AIX machines:

example for root:

aix box:
echo "server_NT Administrator" >> $HOME/.rhosts


c- Permit the root login in the AIX machine

chuser login=true rlogin=true root
