Retrieving microkernel version from Unix

Does anyone know how to retrieve the microkernel version from a unix box....Kindly help....

Do you mean the HAL for Linux like the hal daemon for Fedora Core or Redhat?
System V had what was called a microkernel, about 25 years ago, but I don't think too many unixes have one now...

What system? - hardware and OS

To be more specific, I want to retrieve the microkernel version from the Linux preinstallation environment(Linux PE similar to WinPE).
