init CPU Usage

weird, weird...

This morning I changed the resolv.conf

to something like

domain NAME

where NAME is mentionned in host

and the login got quick again.


A few hours later I got a call saying it slow, as I telnetted in, I also experienced the slow speed, i then changed the resolv.conf to something like

domain NAME
search NAME

and the login got quick again....

On top of evertying my mozilla apps (firefox/thunderbird have spontaneously lost all their settings)

I tracerouted to a client and it was fine
They are on the same subnet (some are, some aren't)
NDC is not running

btw NAME in the previous message corresponds to the hostname of the system.

Do you have the following lines in resolv.conf
hostresorder local bind
nameserver (ip address of DNS server)

Make sure that there is no comma between local and bind, I don't know why, but it makes a huge difference.

So I am ps -A -o comm -o pcpu -o pid

I see init with user 1 using 10% CPU power, is that normal
