unix with veritas. NONAMEs2?

I have a server with the following configuration:

Solaris 8
SunFire E2900
48GB RAM
External Disk
Veritas Volume Manager 4.1

The system has connected to it EMC symmetrix disk.

The system recieved new luns for some additional disk. But detecting those disk has proved harder than I thought. Here is the problem, we keep getting output of

NONAMEs2 auto - - error
NONAMEs2 auto - - error
NONAMEs2 auto - - error
NONAMEs2 auto - - error
...
NONAMEs2 auto - - error

from a vxdisk list.

The disks show up in format though. The rest of the system is fine. But for some odd reason, these disks appear as NONAMEs2.

If I have left out some information that you may need for a better assessment, please let me know and I will try to aquire / answer it.

The only info from sunsolve for "nonames2" was the following - suggest you move the file versus removing it (just in case) if you try this. Since this is different from your issue (adding disks versus replacing a disk), caution should be used.

Info from Sunsolve Document ID 82816:

When performing a disk replacement in vxvm 4.1 and VxVM 5.0, the disk being replaced does not show up in the output of a "vxdisk list" command. Instead a "NONAMEs2" entry is seen.
Resolution: Top

To resolve this issue perform the following:

1. Remove the file that contains the existing persistent device name database:

# rm /etc/vx/disk.info

2. Restart the VxVM configuration demon:

# vxconfigd -k
