maxsize and maxdsiz values
Hi All,

How do I ensure that maxssiz and maxdsiz values currently defined is adequate for our system. What are the facts or parameters to be considered to determine these values.

Most people just start with the vendors default values. The installation procedures for some packages may specify a different value. When a process bumps into a limit and dies you need to determine if the process was broken or not. If the process was working ok, you need to increase the value. It matters a lot what exactly what you want the box to do well. A database server is tuned differently than a web server.

Your particular values are odd looking. maxdsiz is at exactly 3 GB which is the largest value I have ever seen on an HP-UX box. Even on a large Oracle database server, I would use 1 GB. 3 GB would be a more reasonable value for maxdsiz_64bit and I wonder if someone made an error there. maxssiz looks ok in magnitude, but it is a little strange looking. Dividing 100610048 by 1024 I can see that you have exactly 98252 KB. But 98252 = 2І * 7 * 11І * 29. It is not obvious how you arrived at that particular value.
