Sendmail on Solaris: Moving /var/mail

Hello Sendmail Experts,

I have sendmail 8.13 running on a Solaris 5.9 box and everything is running great. However, I did not assign enough disk space for /var. As a result, user mailboxes (/var/mail) might give me disk problems in the future. I would like to move /var/mail to another slice, maybe /export/home (local). Can anyone please advise on how I can accomplish this?

I know I can create a symbolic link within /var, but I would prefer another solution. I tried to google a solution for this problem, but I came up empty. It seems like everyone is satisfied with putting their user mailboxes in /var/mail.

Thank you in advance Smilie

/var/mail is compiled into the sendmail binary. I do not believe it can be overridden from sendmail.cf. I've used symlinks before for both /var/mail and /var/sadm and they work fine. If you have a free slice of sufficient size, you could also just create and mount a /var/mail file system.

Another option would be to download the sendmail source (or an equivalent) and compile that to suit your needs.

thank you hegemaro. i guess my only options are either create symbolic link, create a mount point, or recomplie.

i would rather create a symbolic link or create a mount point for /var/mail. i'll ask my superiors if i can just mount /var/mail from a free slice or create a symbolic link to an existing slice. hopefully i get an okay. i would hate to recompile sendmail again since i've already done all the work.
