FTP Prompt Error

Hi,

We are facing this problem in live environment. We send some set of files at the End of Business day. Clients have chosen FTP mode for this.
Of around 50 files we send, for two files we are getting below error in our log files.

Write: [file_name]
Read: [200 PORT command successful.]
Read: [150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for file_name.]
Timed out polling FTP process for read
Read: [226 Transfer complete.]
Error: [8268863] Failed
Error: Could not receive FTP prompt

Does anyone have any idea on this idea. Appreciate your response.
One more thing is when we try resending the files they are being sent successfully. Looks like one time error but occuring daily.

Thanks

This is your real problem:

Code:
Timed out polling FTP process for read

ftp is timing out.

Every implmentation of ftp has some special function that depends on the remote host.

Connect to the customer host and try the ftp command for site help:

Code:
ftp> site help

to see all of the site specific commands --
there may be some command to alter the timeout, it is sometimes called IDLE. If you see one then --
Code:
man ftpd

on the remote host to give you examples of how to use the command.
ftpd -t sets the default timeout on the remote host, ftpd -T set the max timeout that you as a user can request.

If you ftp to a HPUX box
Code:
SITE IDLE 60

sets the timeout to 60 minutes, for example. This will only work if the admin on the other side allows it with a big enough -T option when firing up ftpd. In other words, you may need to talk to the guys at the customer sites to set things up there, too.
