since there are over 45,000 views on this thread with only 789 votes in the poll I would believe that the Z Shell is a clear winner =)

ksh88 (not ksh93) is the clear winner in the commerical world for cross-platform implementations. The lack of variations is a distinct advantage. However the first "ksh" Shell variant which includes proper date arithmetic (like some implementiations of the BSD "date" command) will get my vote.

IMHO the various inconsistent implementations of the latest attempt at "Posix" are a waste of time. How many commercial scripters set "bash" to "Posix" I wonder?
