How to take file line count in AIX
HI All,

I am trying to take file line count in UNIX and AIX

Unix command to take file line count-- working fine
Code:
count=`wc -l /apps/hgford/sorted/E.testing.DLY|cut -f1 -d " "`
1355

Same command when run in aix --having issue

count=`wc -l /apps/hgford/sorted/E.testing.DLY|cut -f1 -d " "`
1355

I am getting some space before the filnal count 1355 .
What should i modify to get correct output using aix .Please guide .

HI , In my question the output is tagged .
I mean the output gives blanks and then output .
Output :

{spaces}1355

I need output as :
1355

that' purely depending on your OS and that won't impact your result.

i believe you will get the space still.

or

As soon as you perform calculations the TAB or spaces should disappear:

count=$(( $(wc -l < /apps/hgford/sorted/E.testing.DLY) + 0 ))

You could also if you just want to print...

echo $(wc -l < /apps/hgford/sorted/E.testing.DLY)

or
Code:
read count << EOF
$(wc -l < /apps/hgford/sorted/E.testing.DLY)
EOF
