Floating point argument for sleep command in Unix
Hi ,
How can I use floating point argument for sleep command in unix.I cannot use usleep as it is not suppported.
Also how can I find out that a file is in use at that particular instant only.(wether it is being read or written)

atime query
Is there any method by which I can find out is the file being used or just got accessed 1 sec ago.
find . -atime -1s : gives a list of number of files..which is an inappropriate result.Smilie

Try 1s instead of -1s. You don't want to search for files that were accessed in the future.

If atimes are turned off on this filesystem, you won't be able to tell which files were accessed recently.

It appears that you are writing a shell script - not a C program. Bash does not support milliseconds with sleep because it does not have floating point support. ksh (and I believe zsh, but I have not checked) support millseconds arguments.

I don't think bash has a built-in sleep anyway.

GNU sleep supports floating point numbers for arguments, most other implementations don't.

Corona, I stand corrected. Thanks. Always assumed I was using a shell builtin for sleep in bash.

how to compare 2 floating point no.

Hi, Could any one tell me how to compare to floating point no. using test command. As -eq option works on only intergers. i=5.4 if then echo "equal" else echo "not equal" fi here output will be equal even though no. are unequal. Thanks, ravi (1 Reply)

Does anyone have a simple way of doing floating point ("fp") division? For example, if I divide 3 by 5, I can get 0.6.
