Google is such a good friend for you on these easy questions that are answered by a quick search:

The AlphaLinux Homepage

Quote:
What is AlphaLinux?
AlphaLinux is a port of the Linux operating system to Compaq (was Digital)'s Alpha CPU. The Alpha is a true 64-bit CPU that holds the title as the fastest chip currently available, with speeds up to 833MHz. Most of the other components in an Alpha system are the same as an Intel based PC, and most of the x86 Linux software available today can be recompiled on the Alpha.

Where can I get an Alpha system?
We currently have a list of vendors, both in the U.S. and internationally that sell Alpha hardware

How do I get AlphaLinux?
You can buy a distribution from one of the vendors. Currently RedHat, Debian, SuSE, RockLinux and Mandrake have AlphaLinux distributions. Just like its x86 counterpart all of this software is available for download from the Internet. Though it's always a good idea to buy a distribution to help fund continued development.

Of course you will have to make sure your application runs under Linux too. But that was obvious, wasn't it?

I hope this helps.

Not really enough memory fitted for Digital Unix 4.0D. Definitely not enough memory fitted for a modern O/S.

Reference your previous posts, does this computer still have a faulty system disc?
How big are the disc(s).
Do you have a CD/DVD fitted in addition to the tape deck?

Personally I would not persist with an O/S upgrade on hardware this old. You could no doubt buy a server with Linux pre-loaded for less money than upgrading the memory on you workstation. As others mention it is paramount to find out whether your application(s) will run and that data migration is possible before making any changes.

We've been telling you and telling you.

You cannot run Alpha software on a Pentium 4. You cannot run Digital Unix software on Linux. They are not the same thing.

IF your software publisher has a version for x86 linux, or someone can build an x86 linux version, you can move it. Only if. And transferring it might still not be easy.

Also: You agreed not to bump posts when you registered.

Bearing in mind what RADAR is, I wonder if this is one of those times when a word gets mistranslated into English from another language? Maybe the O/P has a "scanner"? Just a guess.
