Unix more secure than windows

Hi,
I need to know why is Unix considered as more secure as compared to Windows. Following points are known but the reason is not known:
i. File access permissions can be provided user wise in unix.
.....but if i share my file in windows, then on that also access permissions can be provided.
ii. For logging into Unix, userId/password required.
......but same can be enabled in windows too.

Advantages of Unix

- Unix is more flexible and can be installed on many different types of machines, including main-frame computers, supercomputers and micro-computers.

- Unix is more stable and does not go down as often as Windows does, therefore requires less administration and maintenance.

- Unix has greater built-in security and permissions features than Windows.

- Unix possesses much greater processing power than Windows.

- Unix is the leader in serving the Web. About 90% of the Internet relies on Unix operating systems running Apache, the world's most widely used Web server.

- Software upgrades from Microsoft often require the user to purchase new or more hardware or prerequisite software. That is not the case with Unix. (LIKE THIS ONE Smilie )

- The mostly free or inexpensive open-source operating systems, such as Linux and BSD, with their flexibility and control, are very attractive to (aspiring) computer wizards. Many of the smartest programmers are developing state-of-the-art software free of charge for the fast growing "open-source movement”.

- Unix also inspires novel approaches to software design, such as solving problems by interconnecting simpler tools instead of creating large monolithic application programs.

Remember, no one single type of operating system can offer universal answers to all your computing needs. It is about having choices and making educated decisions.

can't do links here otherwise..u can google it.

It's worth noting, though, that it's possible to configure any operating system to be insecure. UNIX possesses features that allow a competent admin to button it closed very tightly but that doesn't help when they're not used correctly.

the problem with windows security is that :

there is ALWAYS a backdoor to IT .
there is NO windows server/pc called secured if its not
1) running an antivirus (a)
2)running behind a unix firewall (Smilie

a) the architecure it self of windows allows viruses ti exists
of unix exactly not .

So even if you spend months securing a windows machine, if you dont install an antivirus + hide it behinde a firewall : you will be hacked , it is a FACT sorry !!

the only reason windows exists , it s its availability on PC way cheaper than MACs for folks that needed badly a GUI and didnt have the skills/money to get unix Workstations ...

Linux for instance, get patched about 24h max after a hole is found .(when there is , which is rare)
Windows : even WIN7 has an unfixed backhole dating from win2000 !!!

MS cant fix it because : done quickly it will break compatibility
done seriously it will cost too much and they wont have arguments to sell WIN8 9 etc ... saying they are more secure ....

best regards and thank for giving me a reason to write this Smilie

---------- Post updated at 04:07 PM ---------- Previous update was at 03:49 PM ----------

one more detail about the virus story :
there are wormholes too and you can say : yes but i wont go on the net , nor let anyone log on ... well 1) then you need a server anymore Smilie
and 2) a SAPAIN-AIR aircraft system server became irresponsive, one of their airplanes crashed once, 1XX died !!! you know why ?
it was a windows based server hit by a virus !!!
yes the server was in a bunker, but still got hit , and HUMAINS BEING DIED !!!
sorry for this truth Smilie

another very important detail about viruses/wormholes :

an antivirus by definition, scans (when it can (lol)) you storage and memory for files that have or include a finger-print of a virus, these finger-prints are in a database updated but the vendor when he/she discovers a new virus , and here is the weekness :
a NOT YET repertoried virus can infect the whole planet whithout any one knowing it Smilie only after beeing subgected to it,
and who knows what it can be ...

In unix/linux system, normally we don't install Anti-virus software, but on Windows, the first software you need think to install is anti-virus software.

well that's mostly because there's not much viruses for *nix Smilie
but we all know rootkit for example
and if you will take some executable file from inet and execute it on *nix it can do everything especialy under root

but that's only viruses.. in all other unix is the best
btw you forgot chrooting - unix exclusive Smilie

Even if there were a plethora of viruses out there for Unix, most of them would be useless unless they were run by root (or an equivalent user).

In all flavours of Windows, you are granted administrative-like privileges by default.
