Load average in UNIX

Hi ,

I am using 48 CPU sunOS server at my work.

The application has facility to check the current load average before starting a new process to control the load.

Right now it is configured as 48. So it does mean that each CPU can take maximum one proces and no processe is waiting.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

I am planing to change it 72. Will it have any adverse effect in processing speed.

Please help me on this.

Thanks in advance

Roughly, yes.

If the actual load is higher than 48, processing speed will decrease but you'll be able to process more jobs in parallel so the throughput won't change that much.

THanks for your valuable input.

I will come back if i got any further issues with my throughput.
