Autoloader working

Hi Exprts,
I've some question regrading to work with Tape Autoloaders.
i like to know that for making backup we could use "Tar" commands & any commands that we use for writing on ordinary Tape drives.

Thanks,
Nikk

Hello,
Depends on what OS and how you are planning on using the autoloader?

Could you please explain more about what you are trying to achive.

In general this tends to possible. The autoloader can usually be used as a stacker. This often involves making a configuration change to the autoloader. Then you put a bunch of tapes in the autoloader and make the first tape on-line.

After you finish writing, you use a command like:
mt offl
This takes the first tape offline and readies the second tape.

But you will need special software to issue true autoloader style commands like "load tape number 3".

You mean if i want to make backup on the loader, when it finishes the first tape dose not go to the second automatically & needs some software for handling that.
If so where could i download the related software. (my OS is Solaris 8).
I really appreciate if you send me any reference for related commands on Autoloader.

One more question,i want to keep a dump image of all UFS partitions on the loader, should i use the following:

"cd /;tar cvf /dev/rmt/0mbn *"

Thanks,
Nikk

Right. When one tape is finished it does not automatucally go to the next tape. You make it go to the next tape by using the mt command as I said. The mt command is standard. You have it already.
