Question To find the session.

Dear friends,
I am using Debian linux. I need to run a program whenever a user login to the system.
I want to know whether the user is attempting to login through X session or konsole(ctrl+alt+1). If the user login through X session, I have run a different program and If in konsole, I need to run a different program.

My question is, How can I know that how the user has logged in(X session or Konsole).??

Help me to proceed!!!

In the global resource file(s) for their shell(s), add a check whether $DISPLAY is set or not. If not, it's the console, if it's set it's a terminal emulation started in X (although it won't tell you anything about the session being interactive or not)

ssh session getting hung (smilar to hpux telnet session is getting hung after about 15 minutes)

Our network administrators implemented some sort of check to kill idle sessions and now burden is on us to run some sort of keep alive. Client based keep alive doesn't do a very good job. I have same issue with ssh. Does solution 2 provided above apply for ssh sessions also? (1 Reply)
