Error grub loading stage 1.5.

Hi people,I am trying to install Debian Lenny Betta-2 on a system that has the built in promise chip for "Raid 0" but when I finished the install and then I reboot ,I get "grub loading, pleas wate... Error 2.
also the Debian Lenny Betta-2 is identifying both drives ,instead of a singular drive "Drive C: "when I scand the Debian Lenny Betta-2 hard ware this is what the system came came up with ?
Device to use as root
file system
/dev/hde1/dev/hdg5 <<<<this is where I stored the file system
/dev/hde2
/dev/hde5
/dev/hdg1
/dev/hdg2
so then I typed in the shell "chroot /terget"
and the response was "sh-3.1#"
I have another p/c and It is useing the Debian Lenny Betta-2 in an i386 architecture no problem
but that system in knot using the promise chip for raid 0

You do know that Debian released the stable version more than a month ago?

Have you tried to find out what "Error 2" means?

In UNIX OS' there is no such thing as a "Drive C:", that's just a Microsoft designation for the first partition on the first HDD, not a singular HDD

Are hde and hdg the two IDE devices you use for your RAID? Have you configured the hardware RAID? Or is it a "hardware" RAID that has to be configured by the OS?

How did you get to the shell? Rescue system? What was mounted on /target at that time? And chroot only changes the directory that applications see as '/', nothing else. It won't boot your system for you.

promis chip raid 0

Hi people, well first of all I have bean working studiously on trying to get my p/c to boot Smilie>>>Smilie
and I have bean reading the help files ,thi is the "URL"http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/grub.html#Role-of-a-boot-loader
but that does not seam to have helped me, to me this is fairly complex, but i love it none the lessSmilie

some one was asking how I got the rescue mode in the command shell, this ISO disk that I down loaded
has it all on there en clouding the patches for true "RAID 0"but I don't know how to implement them as well as the arguments.,for installationSmilie

I also know that Debian Lenny was released last month or so, but I was hoping that perhaps I could download a new kernel and compile it and also install new packages and thus have a new o/s without having the tedium of downloading a complete ISO image.Smilie

I had found a Debian Live 500-i386 rescue ISO online but apparently the MD5 check sum failed according to some of the developers,so that was not much good to me but that will be fixed soon.

thank god I have this live drive "PURE DYNE" its awesome and all off the web.

Usually it's no problem upgrading Debian. apt-get update / apt-get dist-upgrade should be enough in most cases.

Uh, what? I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you're trying t say there.

Again, please answer some questions / provide some details. What's your systems configuration? How did you install Debian? On which disk? How did you configure your on-board RAID chip? Which harddisks are connected to it (IDE Primary/Secondary Master/Slave, SATA, SCSI, SAS, ...)?

currently configured partitions

this is an overview of my currently configured partitions and mount points

#1 primary 38.5 GB B ext3
#5logical 1.5 GB f swap swap

IDE4 master (hdg -40.0GB wdc WD400BB-00AUA1

#1 primary 38.5 GB B ext3
#5 logical 1.5 GB f swap swap

this is my setup as is but it does not look correct, when I used to have windows 98se installed I had to install the "RAID DRIVERS because when I done an install it would automatically go in to " DOS computability mode" and I think thats where the problem lyes, sorry about the delay, but I was mewling over that fact about just what to say to you regarding this technical hurdle as it were . Smilie
I think this is more complex than I initially thought .

mother board ASUS A7V 133
socket A CPU Athalon
512 megs of SD RAM
just let me know if you need more info on my system.
