Pat Volkerding and the Slackware team released the latest version of Slackware Linux, 12.1, on May 2. Even though it is a "point one" release, the list of new features reads like what other distributions would consider a major new version. Slackware 12.1 features the latest KDE 3.5.9, Xfce 4.4.2, and a number of improvements, especially to udev. The full list of updated features is in the official product announcement. From a user's perspective, version 12.1 is a true refinement of the previous version.

I am trying to upgrade redhat from 5.6 to 5.8.
When i use yum update -yit installs 5.9
I dont want 5.9, instead i would like to upgrade to 5.8
is there anyway to specify a version when you are doing yum update? thanks

I have a power5 that I would like to update and bring everything forward.
I am wondering about trouble-free upgrades. Is it better to go 5.3 -> 7 or 5.3 ->6 ->7?
The power5 box is behind and hopefully can learn from experiences here.

We currently have test and production servers running AIX 5.2, DB2 8.1(Prod), DB2 8.2(Test),Websphere 6.1 on both. I am having 2 Hard disk one for os and another for data,I would like to know for Upgrading AIX 5.3 to 6.1,wheather I have to varry off datavg while upgrading, or any other files needs to be backup.

Hi I run FEDORA CORE 4 and I have been asked to upgrade the apache to the latest version--this machine is using 2.0.54 Apache which is really OLD. I have a sun box with Solaris 9 installed on it.
The SSH version is Sun_SSH_1.0 but I need to upgrade it to Sun_SSH_1.1.
Do I have to remove the SSH packages totally or is there any other alternative.

whohas is a command line tool to query package lists from the Arch, Debian, Fedora, Gentoo, Mandriva, openSUSE, Slackware (and linuxpack-
ages.net), Source Mage, Ubuntu, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, Fink, MacPorts and Cygwin distributions.
OPTIONS --no-threads
Don't use multiple threads to query package lists (will be much slower)
--shallow
Limit to one call per server. Faster, but loses some information, typically package size and release date.
--strict
List only those packages that have exactly pkgname as their name.
-d Dist1[,Dist2[,Dist3 etc.]]
Queries only for packages for the listed distributions. Recognised values for Dist1, Dist2, etc. are "archlinux", "cygwin",
"debian", "fedora", "fink", "freebsd", "gentoo", "mandriva", "macports", "netbsd", "openbsd", "opensuse", "slackware", "sourcemage",
and "ubuntu".

whohas uses various files in ~/.whohas to cache package lists for some distributions.
