gNewSense distro frees Ubuntu

Free software lovers can rejoice at this month's release of gNewSense 2.0 (pronounced "guh-new-sense"), the latest version of the popular distribution based on Ubuntu Hardy Heron. Code-named DeltaH, this operating system includes only software where users have the right to run, study, adapt, redistribute, and improve all of the software and code. To that end, gNewSense is supported and sponsored by the Free Software Foundation (FSF). The strict freedom-ware requirement excludes a great deal of software, including proprietary drivers for wireless and video cards, leaving most users with a less functional -- albeit less tainted -- derivative of Ubuntu 8.04.

I have a computer here that has Ubuntu 11.04 - Natty Narwhal and when I boot it up a screen appears saying "Ubuntu Studio - Linux for creative humans." unix process that frees ports

Hello, I know that there is a unix system process that checks periodically the ports and if it finds any zombies then it frees them (the period is set by a kernel parameter). Can anyone tell me the name of the process and the kernel parameter ? Thanks :) (2 Replies)

NAME

       debian-distro-info - provides information about Debian's distributions

SYNOPSIS

       debian-distro-info [OPTIONS]

OPTIONS

       --date=DATE
	      date for calculating the version (default: today)

       -h, --help
	      display help message and exit

       --alias=DIST
	      print  the  alias  (stable, testing, unstable) relative to the distribution codename passed as an argument.  Only distribution code-
	      names composed of lower case ASCII letters are accepted, and if the distribution does not qualify as stable,  testing  or  unstable,
	      then the same codename passed as argument is returned.

       -a, --all
	      list all known versions

       -d, --devel
	      latest development version

       -o, --old
	      latest old (stable) version

       -s, --stable
	      latest stable version

       --supported
	      list of all supported stable versions

       -t, --testing
	      latest testing version

       --unsupported
	      list of all unsupported stable versions

       -c, --codename
	      print the codename (default)

       -r, --release
	      print the release version

       -f, --fullname
	      print the full name
