can you use "sun shared shell" and give remote access to the system? if yes, maybe we can try to figure out the problem together... (if you are willing to give root access to a stranger; but you can monitor everything through "shared shell"!).

I may be posting out of turn here because I have not managed to deduce the Operating System or hardware from these posts.

When a unix system does not have a physical X-terminal console fitted the X-windows base software is not installed by default. Even from a LAN-connected X-terminal you will not be able to install a modern Oracle kit until you install the X-windows base software on the server. It's happened to me!

Yes, I know what a shared shell is let me know when you have time and I will set this up.
