I was told to apt-get -f install to fix something (that part was a little vague in terminal). Did that, then the above command again.. worked like a champ. Tried the .deb again and almost fell out of my chair when it worked. Thank you guys so much for your help.

Yes. As was stated:

dpkg is a method for installing a single package, much like the tools in rpm.

apt-get or synaptic or aptitude are package management tools.

The way they work involves solving dependencies, as best as they can.

So in the case of installing a package called "foo" you would run:

sudo apt-get install foo

It would then see that foo requires "bar"

and install bar for you, because foo requires it.
