Hi,
Ok Ive tried to use crontab at least thirty times,following all the directions to no avail.
Just to test the cron program I created a script to reboot in 3 mins.

#!/bin/bash
sudo reboot

I made permissions $chmod 755 reboot.sh
moved reboot.sh to /usr/local/bin/
I started crontab -e
3 * * * * /usr/local/bin/reboot.sh
I should have rebooted in 3 mins, I think. I didn't. how come? Thanks

sudo will ask you the password ???

Check the syslog.

Is there any way to run a schedule command ,that uses sudo, without me having to type it? Or is that a breach of security for my system? .Thanks

This cron line will run the script at three-minutes past the hour every hour on every day of the year.

I can't comment on whether the script itself will work. You don't mention whether you are "root" or whether the cron is a "root" cron.

thank you for that...using 'at' is an option.....using cron is more involved,of which I will research further........thanks again

Why don't you call the reboot script from sbin instead of writing a script and worrying about a password when sudo is called?

As root in the crontab add an entry like the following:

/usr/sbin shutdown -r now and specify the entries (date, time, day of week) you would like to set in cron?

Make sense?
