Operating Systems Linux Ubuntu Samba not working
# 8
Old 10-16-2010
Upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 but still.no luck. Now I have two directories listed, one from before and one I just set up with Gnome sharing. First one still asking for a password and new one connect error. Is there any way I can just nuke it all and start again? This has been driving me nuts for months and all I want to do is share to the lounge media box.

Bug removing winbind fixed it for me

apt-get remove winbind
solved the problem for me.

No idea why winbind was even installed although as I was debugging I stumbled upon the statement: "If winbind appears installed and there is no reason why you run a winbind server on your client (if you don't know what it is, you probably don't need it),.."

Here are the errors I was seeing:

/var/log/samba# tail log.winbindd-idmap
