Ubuntu

Hi Friends,
I have one old dell desktop with windows 2000 pro..it has 20 g hard drive and 1 gb ram. I update it with Ubuntu 10.04 desktop edition. when everything was installed. it wanted me to restart the computer before i can use it. when i restart there was an ubuntu error request : I/O error somethig like that.. Then i just restart computer manually by taking out disk.. It is not booting up.. Any help?

"Something like that" errors are almost never any good. Please provide the actual text of the error. Most errors traps are configured in a way to point you towards the right solution to your problem if you know how to read them. We can help with that, but there needs to be more information given to do so.

make sure your boot orders have first priority to the CD/DVD drive and second to the hard drive

then reinstall and make sure you select the hard drive to install it to.

the error you are describing resembles an Input error, which could be that you took the disc out too soon, but it also sounds like it finished everything it needed from the CD, but just for the heck of it, reinstall again and don't actually take the CD out until the moment your PC is turning back on after the 'shutdown' part of "restart" finishes (when the manufacturer's & BIOs logo appears.)
