Migrating from Unix to Linux
Is there a way to migrate username password from Freebsd 6.1 to Linux Ubuntu 8.04. I am using the server as a email server running postfix and using imap. Is there a way to transfer the usernames and password. I have transferred all the Maildirs but I am getting uid errors and gid errors even after giving ownership to th directory to that user and subdirectories. I try to login tothe email account and I get a gid error and uid error. I recreated the users after I transferred the home directories and gave them owership

not sure but maybe is you copy /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow Smilie

I know when you create a user or group a unique ID number for THAT system is assigned at the time. You can copy the password file, I've done it in the past, but you have to reconcile group ID's and user ID's so permissions and access will all be correct.
