debian, good for newbie?

Hey all,
new to unix.com
have a couple quick questions,

Is Debian, a good choice for a linux newbie?
Is debian hard to install?

My home box is running on Debian. Not really hard to install. Similar to that of other Linux distros.

To avoid personal preference (which is mandated by the forum rules), what I can say is that you need to be prepared to learn the Debian way of doing things, say the Debian package format and dpkg-line of tools, the debconf configuration file management framework and the defoma (Debian's font management system). Just to name a few. And you have far less (compared with names like Fedora/SuSE/Mandriva etc., if not none) vendor-supplied GUI admin tools for you to use. But if one is prepared to or intends to work primarily on the command line, the difference is not that significant.
