Solaris 9: Which process is taxing the disk?

What method do you recommend for determining which process is causing disk IO problems on Solaris 9? I have a disk which historically has service times of under 10ms, but is now averaging about 80ms.

I can usually zero in with a combination of top and lsof. A process that is hammering a disk will be a top process and it will have files open on the file system in question. If I stop the process and disk usage drops off, I have my process. But it can be a bad disk too... soft errors result in very slow performance. Can also be that the box is out of memory.

Similar to a failing disk there is also the possibility, if external storage is being used, that a controller cache has gone into write-through.

Did you run the iostat -xcn to capture the read/write stats?

The process was mysql. A new database with constant inserts was recently added. We're going to move mysql to its own disks.
