I don't follow you. During the Solaris installation you pick a root password and have to enter it twice. We have no idea what you picked. If someone did the installation, we still have no idea what he or she picked.

ok now i have come to a different problem

i cant log onto the sparc computer i didnt create an account when installing (it didnt ask me to) all i did was root

log into root but from there i can not to anything

is there any way i can get into a GUI as i seem to be stuck with a console

is the login jasmine and the password jasmine?

i do that and then it tells me X-server can not be started on display : 0

i then get to last login: thu 6 16:57:17 on console (i would rather a gui)

then you are root. from here... you can do whatever you like. if you need help with a windowing environment, look at X window system (x11). unfortunately, i don't use the gui so i can't help you much there.

ahh i see

how to i for instance set it up as a file server with in the root? or even get the x11 working from the root?
